Tan Sri Zulhasnan

Tan Sri Zulhasnan Rafique is a prominent figure in Malaysian politics. Born on 20 September 1954 in Selangor, Malaysia, he has held various significant positions throughout his political career. Here’s a brief overview of his accomplishments:

Military Service:

Before entering politics, Zulhasnan served in the Royal Malaysian Air Force as a fighter pilot. He retired in 1985 with the rank of Major.

Political Journey:

Zulhasnan began his political career by winning the Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat in the 1999 Malaysian general election. In 2004, he shifted to the Setiawangsa constituency and secured a win. He held the Setiawangsa seat until 2013.

 

Ministerial Roles:

Zulhasnan was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Federal Territories in 2004. Following a cabinet reshuffle in 2006, he was elevated to the position of Minister of Federal Territories, a role he held until 2009.

 

Ambassadorial Role:

In December 2016, Zulhasnan was appointed as the Malaysian Ambassador to the United States, a position he held until April 2018.

 

Election 2018:

Zulhasnan attempted a political comeback in the 2018 general election by contesting the Setiawangsa constituency. However, he faced defeat.

 

Affiliations:

Zulhasnan is a supreme council member of the United Malay National Organisation (UMNO), which was a major component of the previously ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional (BN).

Dr. Hurriyah El Islamy
